Russian timber labelled “high risk” by EU as Ukraine gains “low-risk” status under EUDR
The European Commission recently updated its country risk classification under the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), placing timber from Russia and Belarus in the “high-risk” category. According to the new regulation, the EU will apply differentiated inspection rates depending on the risk category of timber imports: for low-risk countries, only 1% of timber imports will be checked; for standard-risk countries, the rate increases to 3%; and for high-risk countries—including Russia and Belarus—the inspection rate reaches 9%.
