Uncertainty grows in the US softwood lumber market

The aftermath of Hurricane Helene in the South, combined with a strike affecting ports from Maine to Texas, has added uncertainty to an already weak softwood lumber market. Traders in the South estimated it would take another week or two to fully assess the hurricane’s impact. Over a dozen Southern Pine mills on the east side were still closed on Thursday due to flooding or power outages.
