U.S. lumber futures fall sharply

Lumber futures stabilized around $570 per thousand board feet, nearing their lowest point since early February, and marking a sharp drop from late March when prices briefly spiked to $685, the highest in two and a half years. The threat of additional trade tariffs continues to weigh on the construction sector, dampening demand and slowing housing starts. The US produces only 35 billion board feet of lumber annually, far short of the 50 billion board feet it consumes, making it heavily reliant on imports.
