Poland faces high costs as EU deforestation rules near implementation

Poland’s wood sector is bracing for major financial and operational burdens as the European Union’s new anti-deforestation regulation (EUDR) moves toward full implementation. The rules, adopted in June 2023, will apply to large and medium-sized companies across the bloc from Dec. 30, 2025, and require detailed monitoring of the origins of raw materials including wood, coffee, cocoa and other commodities. For Poland, where forestry and wood processing remain important industrial activities, the new rules mean additional verification and reporting obligations for companies that rely on domestic and imported raw materials.
