Log inventories decline at Chinese ports due to falling imports and weak construction demand

According to the latest customs data, China imported a total of 24.146 million cubic meters of wood (logs and lumber) in the first five months of 2025, down 13.3% year-on-year—a sharp decrease of 3.709 million cubic meters. The total import value stood at 35.15 billion yuan (approx. €4.5 billion), representing a 14.3% drop from the same period in 2024. In May alone, wood imports amounted to 4.966 million cubic meters, with a value of 7.09 billion yuan (approx. €900 million).
