Japan: Prices for imported softwood lumber from Europe on the rise

The price increase of imported lumber for housing construction in Japan is becoming more noticeable. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the average price for European lumber in June is about 10% higher than that of domestic lumber. This increase is due to the weakening yen and rising maritime logistics costs, which have raised the procurement costs for Japanese trading companies.
