European sawmills see strong demand in Japan, exports increase by 29%
In 2024, the European Union significantly increased its softwood lumber exports to Japan, both in volume and value. According to Eurostat data, EU countries shipped a total of 2.28 million cubic meters of softwood lumber to Japan over the full year, up 29% from 1.77 million cubic meters in 2023. The value of these exports rose by 31%, from EUR 513.4 million to EUR 672.2 million. Sweden and Finland continued to lead EU exports to Japan.
