China log prices hold firm as inventories slip below 3 million m³

Log prices in China are holding at relatively firm levels for this time of year, supported by steady demand and tighter supply from New Zealand. At-wharf-gate (AWG) prices in New Zealand’s Southern North Island ports were set at around NZ$122/JAS for A-grade 3.9m logs in August, the highest August spot level since 2018. In the Chinese market, wholesale prices for radiata pine middle A-grade eased RMB 10/m³ in late July versus June, while hemlock and spruce logs posted gains of RMB 10–30/m³. Export flows have remained resilient.
