Challenging times for European sawmills

The fourth quarter was disappointing many European sawmills, but a more balanced market can be expected. The market for sawn and planed timber products has been challenging during the fourth quarter and sales prices have continued to decline.  The onslaught of spruce bark in Central Europe and southern Sweden, with subsequent oversupply of damaged timber at low prices, has continued to adversely affect the timber market.  The situation with the spruce bark drill is still not resolved in Central Europe and the harvesting of damaged forest continues.
