US hardwood exports are moving again, but the market has not recovered

US hardwood log shipments have strengthened following China’s return to the market and the expansion of trade with Vietnam. For American sawmills, however, the underlying picture remains weak: lumber demand has not fully recovered, overseas buying remains unpredictable and the supply chain is entering the next log season with limited visibility over prices and volumes.
