Rayonier earnings rise; higher Canadian lumber duties seen supporting U.S. timber prices

Rayonier Inc. reported a sharp increase in second-quarter adjusted EBITDA, despite lower revenues in its timber segments, and said higher U.S. duties on Canadian lumber could lift domestic timber prices. Adjusted EBITDA rose 35% year-on-year to about $45 million in the April–June period. The growth came even as revenue in the Southern Timberland segment fell 10% and the Pacific Northwest Timber segment posted an 8% decline. The U.S. Commerce Department recently raised antidumping duties on Canadian lumber imports to 20.6% from 7.7%.
