U.S. raises anti-dumping duties on softwood lumber above 20%

The U.S. Department of Commerce has finalized a new anti-dumping duty rate of 20.56% on Canadian softwood lumber imports, up from the previous rate of 7.66%. The decision follows the sixth administrative review and applies to lumber imported during calendar year 2023. Countervailing duties of 6.74% remain in place, potentially bringing the combined rate to over 30%, depending on the outcome of a separate review. The Department cited “unfair trade practices” and pricing well below market value as justification for the revised rate.
