Weak market forces Canfor to close 2 sawmills in South Carolina
Canfor Corporation announced it will permanently close its sawmills in Estill and Darlington, South Carolina, by August 2025.The decision will reduce the company’s U.S. lumber production capacity by approximately 350 million board feet annually—equivalent to about 826,000 cubic meters—and impact around 290 employees. The closures come after an extended period of persistently weak market conditions and ongoing financial losses that have made continued operations at the two facilities no longer viable.
