US sawmills can’t meet demand; additional imports from Canada and Europe still required
On March 4, new tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico came into effect in the United States. Christian Nielsen, market analyst at the Swedish Forest Industries Federation, discussed the situation in a recent interview. The purpose of the tariffs, which include a 25% tariff on wood from Canada, is to increase US domestic production. However, Nielsen believes this will not meet the demand.
