Logging in Russia drops due to export restrictions; lumber prices drop

 During the first quarter of 2022, logging in Russia fell by 2.4%, from 70.7 million cubic meters to 68.9 million cubic meters. This happened due to the implementation of the country's log export ban from early 2022 and the decrease in demand of logs for plywood production. The Leningrad region saw the highest drop (34%), while the Irkutsk region saw a drop of 11.5%. During the past five years, only in 2019 has been seen a reduction in deforestation in the first quarter (just under 1%, from 68.9 million to 68.3 ...
