India could replace China as a substitute market for Australian timber

In November 2020, China claimed that harmful organisms were detected in multiple batches of logs imported from Australia. The Australian log industry has been severely affected as the Chinese authorities decided to suspend the import of logs from Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia.  In previous years, China accounted for more than 90% of Australia's log exports, and Australia's annual timber trade volume to China reached 1.6 billion Australian dollars (1.23 billion US dollars).
