12 sawmills expected to close in the next 10 years

  British Columbia’s shrinking timber supply will attract approximately 12 sawmills to be closed in the next decade, following Tolko Industries’ decision to close its Quest sawmill in Quesnel.  According to Vancouver Sun, the sawmill in Quesnel was “the next mill on our list”, as Russ Taylor, president of the consulting firm Wood Markets Group, said. Moreover, Tolko CEO Brad Thorlakson cited a lack of “economic fibre to keep all our (B.C.) mills running efficiently” in making the decision to close the mill and cut one of two shifts from its Kelowna mill.   ...
