Stora Enso starts employer-employee negotiations at its LVL Mill and Sawmill in Varkaus in Finland.
In addition to reorganisation, the employer is considering eliminating completely up to nine jobs. Also, Stora Enso is considering laying off all staff at the LVL Mill and Sawmill for a period of up to three months. The units employ 110 people in total.
According to a company's announcement, additional pressures on the competitiveness of the units was caused by the rapidly rising log prices this year. The plants have done a number of measures to improve cost and production efficiency, which will continue according to the company.
Negotiations will begin next Thursday and will last for at least two weeks.
The Varkaus LVL plant and sawmill belong to Stora Enso's Wood Products division. The plant produces LVL as well as planed and sawn timber. The annual capacity is 150,000 cubic meters of sawn timber, 10,000 cubic meters of planed products and 70,000 cubic meters of veneer.
