Setra races to save storm timber value before blue stain takes hold

Storm Johannes left Setra with a problem that had less to do with recovering timber than with time.

Large volumes of spruce and pine had been pushed onto the ground almost at once. Once the trees were separated from their roots, the clock started. If the logs remained there too long, especially through warm weather, blue stain could spread through the sapwood and sharply reduce the number of markets and products in which the timber could be used.
