Sawmills in the US increase softwood lumber production in January-February
US sawmills produced 5.285 billion board ft. (bbf) of softwood lumber in the first two months of 2017, a gain of 1.7% from 5.199 bbf in the year before. As the Western Wood Products Assn. (WWPA) reported in its latest Lumber Track report, of the two-month total, Western U.S. sawmills accounted for 2.176 bbf, down 2.4% from 2.229 bbf a year earlier, while Southern sawmills contributed 2.867 bbf – up 4.9% from last year’s 2.732 bbf.
