Japan’s imported lumber market turned sharply lower in July, puncturing the idea that the rise in June marked the beginning of a sustained recovery. Arrivals fell to 265,000 m³, down 15% from June and 27% from a year earlier, according to preliminary trade figures released by Japan’s Forestry Agency. It was the weakest monthly result in the latest official series and left imports for the first seven months at 1.906 million m³, 15% below the same period of 2025.
