Five former Enviva executives are facing a lawsuit over a series of wood pellet transactions with RWE that committed the US producer to purchasing around 1.76 million tonnes at prices far above much of its contracted sales book. The deals, struck at the height of the European energy crisis in late 2022, eventually contributed to hundreds of millions of dollars in projected losses and became one of the key events preceding Enviva's Chapter 11 filing.
