German sawmill industry: What to expect for the remainder of 2026?
Germany's softwood sawmill industry is heading into the final four months of 2026 with production already at its lowest level in more than a decade and another sizeable contraction expected this year. The latest industry forecast points to German softwood lumber production falling to around 18.49 million m³ in 2026, down 9.2% from 2025. If confirmed, production will have declined by almost 6.85 million m³ from the 2021 peak, equivalent to a reduction of 27% in only five years. The decline has accelerated rather than stopped.
