New Zealand log market steadies as China inventories tighten and freight remains the key risk

New Zealand’s export log market has entered August in a considerably more balanced position than the wider Chinese economy would suggest. Chinese selling prices have edged higher, port inventories are no longer building and daily log consumption has strengthened during what is normally a difficult part of the year. The improvement is still modest, but six months of relative stability are beginning to give exporters something the market has lacked for some time: visibility.
