Study points to major cuts in European timber harvesting to meet 2030 carbon target

European timber supply could come under substantially greater pressure if policymakers pursue the forest management changes outlined in a new study on the continent’s declining carbon sink. The research estimates that forest harvesting across the EU would need to fall by around 28% between 2025 and 2030, compared with a business-as-usual trajectory, even if the bloc succeeds in planting three billion additional trees.
