Germany’s softwood lumber exports pivot to US as European demand weakens

Germany exported about 4.73 million cubic meters (cbm) of softwood lumber in the first seven months of 2025, up 1% from 4.69 million cbm a year earlier. Export revenues rose 17% year-on-year to €1.3 billion, driven mainly by booming sales to North America, even as shipments to the European Union fell sharply. The EU, still Germany’s largest export market, absorbed 1.98 million cbm in January–July 2025, down 18% from the same period in 2024.
