Stora Enso increased its wood purchases in Finland during the first half of 2026, with activity accelerating in the second quarter and June proving particularly strong. The company expects its need for domestic wood to remain high through the rest of the year.<\/p>\n

The development contrasts with the wider Finnish timber market, where trade volumes have been running around 20% below last year's level.<\/p>\n

After a quieter winter, Stora Enso reached its procurement target in the second quarter and had purchased more wood by the end of June than during the same period in 2025.<\/p>\n

The increase is linked to additional production capacity. The new consumer packaging board line in Oulu has raised fibre requirements, while the acquisition of Junnikkala added three sawmills to Stora Enso's Finnish operations.<\/p>\n

According to Tuomas Tiilikainen, Stora Enso's Director of Wood Procurement in Finland, planned wood consumption at the company's mills has not changed materially, keeping procurement requirements high for the second half.<\/p>\n

Sawlog prices remain high<\/strong><\/p>\n

Finnish timber prices eased from their previous peaks during the second half of 2025 but stabilised during the first half of this year.<\/p>\n

The latest four-week averages reported by Finnish Forest Industries show spruce sawlogs at \u20ac83.63\/m\u00b3 in regeneration fellings and pine sawlogs at \u20ac79.79\/m\u00b3. Pulpwood prices are around \u20ac25-26\/m\u00b3 in final fellings and approximately \u20ac16-21\/m\u00b3 in thinning operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Average prices reported by member companies of the Finnish Forest Industry Association, weighted by purchase volumes over the previous four weeks.<\/em><\/p>\n

Tiilikainen considers the current sawlog price level high, although from the forest owner's perspective prices remain attractive enough to support active timber sales.<\/p>\n

Incentives for autumn timber sales<\/strong><\/p>\n

Stora Enso is also offering additional incentives for autumn purchasing.<\/p>\n

Forest owners selling summer-harvestable thinning stands can receive an advance payment of up to 50% if the timber deal is concluded during the autumn.<\/p>\n

The company has also continued its Star Account campaign. Timber sale proceeds left in the account can earn a 5% return for up to two years, with funds available for withdrawal without fees or loss of accumulated interest.<\/p>\n

The measures are aimed at bringing more timber onto the market at a time when Stora Enso's own procurement is running ahead of last year even though Finnish wood trade overall remains considerably weaker.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
