Timber prices in Finland moved higher across every roundwood assortment in June 2026, with pulpwood posting the sharpest gains. Even so, the overall volume of wood changing hands remained well below the average of recent years, continuing a pattern of weak trade that has persisted through the first half of the year.<\/p>\n
The clearest price movement in June came from pulpwood sold through standing sales, where prices across all species rose by five percent compared with May. In euro terms, that translated into an increase of at least one euro per cubic metre. Log prices in standing sales, along with delivery sale prices for pulpwood, rose by a similar amount in absolute euro terms but represented a smaller percentage increase, since log prices start from a higher base.<\/p>\n
Spruce logs remained the most valuable standing-sale assortment, climbing about one percent from May to nearly 84 euros per cubic metre. Pine logs rose two percent to just over 78 euros, while birch logs pushed past 64 euros per cubic metre.<\/p>\n
Among pulpwood assortments sold standing, spruce reached almost 26 euros per cubic metre, pine close to 24 euros, and birch just above 24 euros \u2014 each up five percent on the month.<\/p>\n
In delivery sales, birch pulpwood recorded the largest gain, rising above 44 euros per cubic metre. Spruce pulpwood delivered under this arrangement fetched more than 42 euros, while pine pulpwood came in at around 40 euros.<\/p>\n
Trade picks up from May, but stays below the norm<\/strong><\/p>\n Roundwood trading activity strengthened compared with May: private forest owners sold 11 percent more industrial roundwood than in the previous month, and the June purchase volume also came in 11 percent above the same month a year earlier. Despite that improvement, June's volume was still 17 percent below the average recorded over the previous five Junes.<\/p>\n The slow start to the year has left a larger gap when measured cumulatively. Roundwood trade volume for the January\u2013June period was 21 percent lower than in the same period a year earlier, and 18 percent below the five-year average for the first half of the year. Within that total, log purchases were down 18 percent against the five-year average, while pulpwood purchases fell even further behind, down 24 percent.
