Homag Group closed out the first half of 2026 with both incoming orders and revenue below last year's levels, as demand across the woodworking machinery sector remained under pressure. Even so, profitability held up better than the top-line numbers would suggest, with margins improving in the second quarter and staying roughly flat for the half-year as a whole.<\/p>\n
New orders for the six-month period came in at \u20ac634 million, down about seven percent from \u20ac683 million a year earlier. Order backlog held roughly steady at \u20ac726 million as of June 30, 2026, only slightly below the \u20ac734 million recorded a year prior.<\/p>\n
Chief Executive Daniel Schmitt said the company still isn't seeing any deep-rooted recovery in customer demand, and described furniture makers' pulled-back investment spending as a drag on the entire industry, not just on Homag. He framed the current environment as one shaped less by company-specific issues and more by a larger hesitancy among manufacturers to commit to new capital spending.<\/p>\n
Revenue fell more sharply than orders, dropping around nine percent to \u20ac626 million compared with \u20ac687 million in the first half of 2025. Operating profit before special items came in at \u20ac25.0 million, down from \u20ac28.3 million the year before. Despite the revenue decline, the operating margin improved quarter-on-quarter in Q2 and finished the half at 4.0 percent, only marginally below last year's 4.1 percent.<\/p>\n
Schmitt credited the relatively resilient margin to cost-reduction steps the company had already rolled out, paired with tighter, more deliberate expense management across the business.<\/p>\n
