Rather than expanding through a new greenfield facility, Grupo G\u00e1miz has replaced key production equipment throughout its existing mill, introducing automation and higher-performance processing technologies designed to increase productivity while lowering operating costs.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"871\" data-end=\"1334\">The modernization includes a new heavy-duty sawing line alongside an upgraded laminated timber production facility. One of the most significant additions is a <strong data-start=\"1030\" data-end=\"1050\">Microtec Woodeye<\/strong> scanner, which automatically identifies and measures wood defects, replacing manual inspection and allowing more accurate grading of incoming material. Improved scanning accuracy is expected to increase raw material recovery while delivering greater consistency in finished products.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1336\" data-end=\"1754\">Another key investment is the installation of a new high-frequency press for laminated timber production. Unlike conventional hot-water pressing systems, the technology uses electromagnetic energy to cure adhesives much faster, significantly reducing pressing times while producing stronger glue bonds. The shorter production cycles are expected to increase throughput without requiring additional manufacturing space.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1756\" data-end=\"2135\">Alongside higher production efficiency, the company has also focused on reducing energy consumption. The laminated timber facility now operates with a biomass-fired boiler that allows the plant to generate most of its thermal energy internally. Combined with the replacement of older machinery, the modernization is expected to reduce overall energy consumption by <strong data-start=\"2121\" data-end=\"2134\">up to 20%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2137\" data-end=\"2479\">Grupo G\u00e1miz primarily processes <strong data-start=\"2169\" data-end=\"2185\">European oak<\/strong>, sourced largely from forests in northern Spain, into laminated structural timber and other value-added hardwood products. The company remains strongly export-oriented, with approximately <strong data-start=\"2374\" data-end=\"2423\">94% of production shipped to European markets<\/strong>, where <strong data-start=\"2431\" data-end=\"2441\">Fran\u021ba<\/strong> continues to be its largest customer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2481\" data-end=\"2743\">Company director <strong data-start=\"2498\" data-end=\"2517\">D\u00e1maso Quintana<\/strong> described the commissioning of the upgraded mill as the beginning of the company's next growth phase, saying the modernization has strengthened the factory's competitive position and created the platform for future expansion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2745\" data-end=\"2897\">The facility currently employs <strong data-start=\"2776\" data-end=\"2789\">86 people<\/strong>, including <strong data-start=\"2801\" data-end=\"2813\">26 women<\/strong>, making it one of the principal industrial employers in the Monta\u00f1a Alavesa region.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2899\" data-end=\"3228\">Basque Government officials, who attended the commissioning ceremony, said the investment demonstrates how technological modernization can improve the competitiveness of rural manufacturing while supporting employment and adding value to locally sourced timber.
