Global oil prices fell sharply this week, dropping back to levels last seen in March as markets reacted to reports that the United States and Iran had reached a preliminary peace agreement that could lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the normalization of Iranian oil exports.<\/p>\n

Crude oil prices declined toward USD 75 per barrel, reversing most of the gains recorded during the recent tensions in the Gulf region. The market reaction quickly spread across refined products, with diesel, heating oil and gasoline prices also moving lower.<\/p>\n

The decline follows reports that Washington and Tehran digitally signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at reducing tensions and restoring commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy corridors.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

The prospect of increased oil exports from Iran comes at a time when the market is already facing expectations of stronger supply growth. The International Energy Agency (IEA) recently warned that global oil production capacity could increase by around 8 million barrels per day by 2027, while demand growth is expected to reach only about 2 million barrels per day over the same period.<\/p>\n

This combination of easing geopolitical risks and growing concerns about future oversupply has triggered a broad sell-off across energy markets.<\/p>\n

Diesel and heating oil prices have reacted particularly strongly. In the United States, heating oil futures fell to their lowest level since early March, while fuel markets in Europe also moved lower. In Germany, heating oil prices dropped significantly compared with levels seen earlier this month, reflecting both weaker crude oil prices and expectations of improved supply conditions.<\/p>\n

Additional pressure came from inventory data in the United States. Stocks of distillates, which include diesel and heating oil, increased during the first half of June, reinforcing market expectations that supply remains adequate despite recent geopolitical tensions.<\/p>\n

For the wood products industry, lower oil and diesel prices could help ease transportation and logistics costs after months of volatility. Fuel costs remain an important component of timber harvesting, log transport and lumber distribution, particularly in export-oriented markets where shipping expenses have become a major factor influencing competitiveness.<\/p>\n

While markets continue to monitor developments surrounding the US-Iran agreement and the implementation of any measures affecting the Strait of Hormuz, the immediate reaction has been clear: concerns over supply shortages have largely been replaced by fears of excess supply, pushing energy prices sharply lower.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
