A Swedish timber trading company has filed for bankruptcy after uncovering suspicious financial transactions and information suggesting possible timber theft linked to former employees.<\/p>\n
Markskoningsgruppen AB submitted its own bankruptcy application to the Norrk\u00f6ping District Court after an internal review identified a number of transactions that raised concerns. The company said the incidents have been reported to the police and all available documentation has been handed over to investigators.<\/p>\n
According to the company, continuing operations would have risked further losses for creditors. It therefore chose to seek bankruptcy protection rather than pursue a restructuring process while the extent of the damage remains unclear.<\/p>\n
Internal review uncovered suspicious transactions<\/strong><\/p>\n The decision was taken by owner Niklas Lundberg through his holding company, MSG Holding AB, after management, external signatories and financial advisers carried out a review of the business.<\/p>\n During the review, several suspicious transactions were discovered in May. The company also received information concerning suspected timber theft. Both matters are now part of an ongoing police investigation.<\/p>\n The full financial impact has not yet been determined. However, Lundberg estimates that the losses attributable to the suspected criminal activity could exceed SEK 15 million.<\/p>\n Forest owners and contractors among creditors<\/strong><\/p>\n Markskoningsgruppen said the bankruptcy filing was intended to protect creditors and limit further losses.<\/p>\n The company noted that many of its creditors are forest owners and forestry contractors. Management concluded that continuing operations while the investigation was ongoing could have increased the risks for those parties.<\/p>\n Instead of entering a corporate restructuring process, the company opted to file for bankruptcy immediately.<\/p>\n Timber trading business affected<\/strong><\/p>\n Markskoningsgruppen AB has been primarily engaged in timber trading and related services since the first quarter of 2026.<\/p>\n The bankruptcy only affects Markskoningsgruppen AB. Other companies within the group will continue operating normally. Forestry services remain active through DW Tr\u00e4dservice AB, while property activities continue through MSG Fastigheter AB.<\/p>\n The Norrk\u00f6ping District Court has appointed Leonardo Merino as bankruptcy trustee.
