IKEA Industry plans to reduce its workforce at two manufacturing facilities in Poland, with up to 240 jobs expected to be cut at its Wielbark plant and around 160 positions at its Goleni\u00f3w operation.<\/p>\n
The company said the measures are linked to lower order volumes and rising operating costs, forcing it to adjust production capacity to current market conditions. The reductions will affect both production and administrative staff.<\/p>\n
The announcement comes as Poland's furniture sector continues to face weaker demand across several key European markets. Following the strong post-pandemic period, furniture consumption has slowed considerably as high interest rates, inflation and subdued housing activity weigh on consumer spending.<\/p>\n
Poland is one of the world's largest furniture exporters, with the industry heavily dependent on Western European markets. As demand has weakened, many manufacturers have reported shrinking order books, while costs for labour, energy and transport remain elevated compared with pre-pandemic levels.<\/p>\n
The Wielbark facility is among IKEA Industry's largest production sites in Poland, employing approximately 1,500 people. The planned workforce reduction therefore represents a significant adjustment for the plant and the surrounding region.<\/p>\n
The layoffs are expected to have wider implications beyond the factories themselves, affecting suppliers, logistics companies and local service providers. In towns such as Wielbark and Goleni\u00f3w, large industrial employers play a central role in local economic activity.<\/p>\n
