Production at Mets\u00e4 Group's new \u00c4\u00e4nekoski Kerto LVL mill will start in the autumn. The three hundred million euro investment will employ approximately one hundred and thirty people.<\/p>\n
The majority of the factory's production is exported. The annual production capacity is one hundred and sixty thousand cubic meters.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe use of wood in construction is increasing. A few years ago, we decided to increase our LVL production capacity by about fifty percent,\u201d says\u00a0\u00a0Jussi Noponen,\u00a0Division Director at Mets\u00e4 Wood .<\/p>\n
Kerto LVL is a product used in the construction industry and is made by gluing together softwood veneers. Mets\u00e4 Group already manufactures LVL products at its Lohja and Punkaharju mills.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe strength of LVL compared to glued laminated timber products made from sawn timber is its good lightness-to-strength ratio,\u201d says Noponen.<\/p>\n
Due to its low deflection and good strength properties, LVL beams are suitable for long spans.<\/p>\n
New technology<\/strong><\/p>\n The Kertopuutehdas in \u00c4\u00e4nekoski is highly automated. The veneer bundles are transferred from the line to the warehouse using automated forklifts without drivers. The final products are also automatically packaged using a robotic application.<\/p>\n Artificial intelligence is used in warehousing, as it utilizes space as efficiently as possible based on orders. New technology has increased production capacity.<\/p>\n \u201cWe do almost what the Punkaharju factory does with three lines here with two lines,\u201d says\u00a0\u00a0Eero Lampola,\u00a0project director at the Kerto LVL factory .<\/p>\n X-ray vision is newly utilized in veneer sorting, which improves the quality of end products and the efficient use of material.<\/p>\n Another new feature is the process control from the control room instead of local control. In the control room, a machine vision application monitors production using three hundred process cameras. When the application detects a malfunction, the system notifies the operator.<\/p>\n Occupational safety has improved as there is less work to be done on the lines. There are also light curtains near the equipment, which if hit will stop the entire line.<\/p>\n Employees transferred from Mets\u00e4 Wood's closed plywood mill have been trained in the LVL mill's production.
