Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Foresti\u00e8re Docelloise, one of France\u2019s largest beech sawmills, has been shut down after the commercial court in Epinal ordered the company into liquidation.<\/p>\n
The sawmill, located in Docelles in the Vosges department, processed around 35,000 cubic metres of beech logs annually. The sawmill ranked as the third-largest beech sawmill in France.<\/p>\n
The closure follows months of financial difficulties in a hardwood market that has remained weak across much of Europe. Demand from furniture producers and interior manufacturers has slowed, while sawmills continue to face high energy, transport and labour costs.<\/p>\n
The shutdown is another blow for the Vosges region, one of France\u2019s main hardwood processing areas. Beech remains an important species for French processors, but margins have tightened as export demand weakened and domestic consumption slowed.<\/p>\n
French hardwood producers have also been affected by lower buying activity in China, where construction and furniture demand remain subdued.
