The 2026 edition of Carrefour International du Bois (CIB), one of Europe\u2019s largest timber trade fairs, will place a strong emphasis on global lumber markets, timber construction, fibre availability and climate-related challenges facing the wood industry.<\/p>\n
The biennial event will take place from June 2 to 4 at the Parc des Expositions de la Beaujoire in Nantes, France, bringing together more than 630 exhibitors from across Europe and international markets.<\/p>\n
Beyond its role as a major trading platform for lumber and wood products, the exhibition has increasingly become known for its conference programme, which this year will cover topics ranging from international timber trade dynamics and wood supply to low-carbon construction and timber reuse.<\/p>\n
One of the central discussions will focus on the outlook for global timber markets and the impact of current economic conditions on the wood industry. CIB President Jean Piveteau and analysts from IFOP Group are expected to discuss market developments and the international trade environment, while representatives from the UN FAO and French Timber will examine global timber production trends and trade flows.<\/p>\n
Resource availability and long-term fibre supply will also be major themes. Several sessions will focus on the future availability of French timber resources, climate impacts on forests and competition for wood fibre. Experts are also expected to discuss the condition of oak, pine and spruce resources and the effects of phytosanitary issues on future timber quality and supply.<\/p>\n
Another important focus will be timber construction and the growing role of wood in low-carbon building strategies. Discussions will include off-site construction, large-scale timber buildings, timber reuse and circular construction models.<\/p>\n
Architects and engineers will also present projects linked to biomimicry and bio-inspired design, while Italian architect Manuel Benedikter is scheduled to discuss the role of wood in contemporary architecture.<\/p>\n
According to organisers, the exhibition continues expanding internationally. At the previous edition in 2024, 39% of exhibitors and visitors came from outside France, with growing participation from countries including Belgium, Spain, Germany, Italy, Brazil and the UK.<\/p>\n
The event has also been targeting stronger participation from the UK and Ireland after visitor numbers from those markets increased by 29% in 2024.<\/p>\n
Organisers said the exhibition will continue using simultaneous translation tools and English subtitles for conference presentations, helping broaden international accessibility for visitors and participants.<\/p>\n
