Spanish cooperatives LANA and Etorki have completed a merger approved by the general assemblies of both companies, creating a significantly larger wood processing group within the Mondragon Corporation network.<\/p>\n
The integration combines the industrial operations of both cooperatives and substantially increases production capacity at a time when demand for industrial timber products, timber construction materials and locally sourced wood remains strong across parts of Europe.<\/p>\n
The merged group will operate a new sawmill facility in Murga, \u00c1lava, officially inaugurated on 11 May. The plant is designed to become one of the largest and most efficient sawmills in southern Europe.<\/p>\n
Following the merger, annual sawn timber capacity is expected to reach around 300,000 m3, while kiln drying capacity will total approximately 60,000 m3 per year. The facility mainly processes radiata pine and includes integrated sawing, drying and wood processing operations.<\/p>\n
The Murga plant covers around 95,000 m2 and is equipped to process logs up to 4.5 metres long and 60 cm in diameter. Full operating capacity is expected to be reached during 2026.<\/p>\n
According to the companies, the merger aims to improve efficiency, strengthen product quality and expand into higher value-added wood products and new export markets. The combined group is also targeting growing demand linked to industrialised timber construction, sustainable packaging and engineered wood products.<\/p>\n
The new cooperative structure is expected to employ more than 300 people and generate annual turnover of around \u20ac150 million.<\/p>\n
Raw material sourcing remains a central part of the strategy. The companies said they maintain direct involvement in forest ownership and harvesting operations, allowing tighter control over timber supply and wood quality selection.<\/p>\n
LANA was founded in 1960 in O\u00f1ati, Gipuzkoa, initially linked to forestry and agricultural activities before expanding into wood transformation and three-layer formwork panels.
