This corresponds to a slight decline of one percent compared to the previous year – significantly better than originally expected. The main reason for this was a strong domestic market.

As the Italian industry association Acimall reports based on current Istat data, the balance for 2025 turned out better than forecast in the preliminary estimate. The reasons were a recovery in exports as well as a significantly strengthening domestic market, which largely offset the initially expected negative effects.

Domestic market grows significantly

Exports by the industry amounted to €1.582 billion in 2025 – a decline of 6.6 percent compared to the previous year. On the domestic market, however, manufacturers generated sales of €816 million, 15 percent more than in 2024. Imports also increased strongly: they climbed by 24.5 percent to €284 million – another indication of the noticeable recovery in demand in Italy.

The industry’s trade balance remains clearly positive with a surplus of €1.298 billion. The apparent market volume in Italy grew by 15.4 percent to €1.100 billion.

“High-end segment” as recipe for success

Acimall director Dario Corbetta drew an overall satisfied conclusion: despite several crisis situations, the industry essentially remained stable last year – supported by exports, which account for 70 percent of total production, but above all by the positive trend in the Italian market.

Italian products continue to be appreciated both domestically and abroad and are consistently positioned in the high-end market segment, with a focus on first-class technological solutions rather than price. This trend has become established in the medium term and has promoted a selection process among manufacturers – resulting in an offering that is sustainable in the long term.

Outlook for 2026: challenging environment

Looking at the current year, Corbetta remains cautious: 2026 will likely be a difficult year due to the political situation and the war scenarios companies are facing. Italian manufacturers, however, are continuing to work intensively as usual to strengthen their market shares abroad and to take advantage of the upturn in the domestic market – supported, for example, by measures such as so-called hyper-depreciation.

The industry is hoping for important momentum from the leading trade fair Xylexpo 2026, which will take place from 9 to 12 June 2026 at Fieramilano Rho and is expected to provide a clearer view of the coming months.

[5204

post-98624","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-daily-news","topic-forestry","topic-lumber","topic-sawmilling","topic-wood-products

<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.9 -
