While Brussels argues the changes will reduce compliance costs and improve clarity, industry representatives say the core issue\u2014lack of binding, unambiguous rules\u2014remains unresolved.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"589\" data-end=\"1255\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Julia M\u00f6bus<\/span><\/span> of <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Deutsche S\u00e4ge- und Holzindustrie<\/span><\/span> (DeSH) said the package brings some expected clarifications, including on information flows in supply chains, exemptions for reused products and improvements to the Information System. However, she warned that deviations from the regulation text and the growing use of interpretative flexibility risk creating new uncertainty in practice, affecting stakeholders from forest owners to the sawmill industry. M\u00f6bus added that the steady release of extensive guidance documents\u2014now running to more than 150 pages\u2014does not equate to simplification if companies still lack legal certainty.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1257\" data-end=\"2001\">The <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Main Association of the German Wood Industry<\/span><\/span> (HDH) echoed this criticism. <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Denny Ohnesorge, Managing Director of HDH<\/span><\/span>\u00a0said the EUDR is \u201cdeveloping in the wrong direction,\u201d pointing to the fifth version of FAQs as evidence that the regulation is becoming a patchwork of interpretative aids rather than a clear legal framework. According to him, the fundamental problem remains that legal obligations are not directly anchored in the regulation itself, but in continuously updated guidance. \u201cCompanies need legal certainty,\u201d he said, stressing that this can only be achieved through a revision of the regulation text. He also called on the German government to step up efforts at EU level to push for such changes.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2003\" data-end=\"2614\">Criticism has been particularly strong in Austria, where <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Erlfried Taurer<\/span><\/span> of the Austrian Timber Industry Association described the Commission\u2019s proposals as insufficient. While acknowledging that earlier political adjustments helped avoid what he termed a \u201cbureaucratic worst-case scenario,\u201d Taurer said the latest package lacks both ambition and practical impact. He argued that the Commission had the opportunity to introduce targeted, legally secure simplifications but instead opted for additional guidance documents that do not provide the necessary certainty for implementation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2616\" data-end=\"3220\">Taurer also linked the issue to the broader economic context, warning that rising geopolitical tensions and the risk of renewed inflation or recession make administrative relief more urgent than ever. \u201cCompanies need to focus on their core business. Reading endless EU documents and filling out forms is not part of it,\u201d he said. He urged the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Council of the European Union<\/span><\/span> and the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">European Parliament<\/span><\/span> to push the Commission toward more decisive action, adding that if a practical and legally secure solution cannot be found, the regulation should be reconsidered altogether.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":98619,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5204,4715],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-98618","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-daily-news","category-market-analysis","topic-forestry","topic-lumber","topic-sawmilling","topic-wood-products","area-europe","area-global"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.9 -
