Conifex will temporarily curtail sawmill operations at its Mackenzie, British Columbia facility for about seven weeks starting May 19, 2026, and it targets a restart in July 2026, with an estimated supply impact of about 25 million board feet, according to Conifex.<\/p>\n
The planned curtailment is tied to log inventory levels and fibre availability, along with seasonal logging breakup conditions affecting supply across the BC Interior. Logging operations are expected to resume in early June, subject to weather and other conditions.<\/p>\n
Conifex restarted the Mackenzie sawmill in February after a four-week curtailment that began December 15, 2025, which the company said responded to weakness in North American lumber markets, including lower benchmark Western SPF lumber prices driven by reduced residential construction, slower repair-and-remodel activity, elevated interest rates, and higher countervailing and anti-dumping duties on Canadian softwood lumber shipped to the United States.<\/p>\n
The restart followed the completion of a $19 million secured term loan for its subsidiary Conifex Mackenzie Forest Products Inc.
