The market has supply, demand has softened, and yet prices are still holding in a tighter band than before.

In Germany, the benchmark price published by the German Pellet Institute (DEPI) stood at €405.11/t in April for a standard 6-tonne bulk delivery. That figure has edged lower month-on-month, but the underlying range is broader. Southern Germany is still around €421.43/t, northern and eastern regions near €422.85/t, and central Germany was about €412.51/t in March. Smaller deliveries and longer transport distances continue to push quotes above €430/t, while bagged pellets typically land between €440 and €480/t.

Germany’s supply base has not tightened. Production reached about 940,000 tonnes in Q1 2026, almost unchanged from a year earlier. What shifted was consumption. A longer heating season absorbed more volume domestically and reduced exports to 7.7% of output. That change, not a shortage, explains the winter firmness in prices.

In Austria, the same pattern holds. Bulk deliveries for household volumes (6 tonnes) are typically quoted around €395–410/t, while bagged pellets for self-collection move between €420 and €460/t. Once delivery is included, costs rise further, with an average surcharge of about €51.80 per load. The spread between bulk and retail remains intact.

In Poland, the gap between wholesale and retail is wider. Bulk-equivalent levels sit around PLN 1,900–2,000/t (€420–450/t), while bagged pellets in retail channels still reach PLN 2,400–2,600/t (€530–580/t). Local availability and distribution costs continue to drive that difference.

In Czechia, offers range from about CZK 7,800/t (€315/t) at the low end to CZK 11,800/t (€475/t) for delivered or higher-grade product. Most residential buyers end up in the middle of that range once transport and packaging are included.

The market has settled, but not reset.
