The agreement is intended to support long-term trade expansion and closer economic engagement between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>More than 95% of New Zealand\u2019s exports to India will become tariff-free upon entry into force, covering a substantial share of forestry shipments. Tariffs on nearly all remaining goods will be phased out over a period of up to seven years.<\/p>\n<p>The reductions are significant in the context of previously high tariff barriers, which in some cases ranged between 30% and 60%, constraining access to the Indian market.<\/p>\n<p>India\u2019s economy is projected to reach approximately NZ$12 trillion by 2030, with its middle class expected to expand to around 715 million people. This growth is expected to support rising demand across a range of imported goods, including construction-related materials.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement also includes provisions ensuring that any improved access granted by India to other trade partners in sectors such as services and wine will automatically extend to New Zealand.
