Latvijas Finieris has completed a \u20ac100 million expansion of its Verems RSEZ SIA plywood mill in V\u0113r\u0113mu parish, increasing production capacity and adding new processing lines.<\/p>\n
The project adds a 19,964 m\u00b2 building, bringing the total plant area to 49,228 m\u00b2. Plywood output capacity is set to rise to about 85,000 m\u00b3 per year from around 45,000 m\u00b3 previously.<\/p>\n
Project preparation began in 2017, with construction starting in September 2022. The new facility includes production space and two office blocks, one integrated into the main building with office, laboratory and staff areas, and another located near the finished goods section.<\/p>\n
The expansion is expected to generate additional exports of more than \u20ac30 million annually. Verems reported turnover of about \u20ac50 million in 2025, with added value of \u20ac20 million, including around \u20ac10 million in EBITDA and \u20ac10 million in wages and taxes.<\/p>\n
The building incorporates approximately 2,700 m\u00b3 of timber structures and uses the company\u2019s own birch plywood in interior fittings, including furniture, signage and auxiliary construction materials such as concrete formwork.<\/p>\n
The main equipment supplier was Raute Corporation. New production lines were integrated with existing operations, including a large-format plywood processing line developed internally and a specialised plywood puttying line.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe designed, manufactured, supplied and installed the large-format plywood processing line,\u201d said M\u0101ris Bumbieris, Director of the company\u2019s equipment division. \u201cThe line is currently designed for manual plywood puttying, with the possibility to add automation at a later stage.\u201d<\/p>\n
The project was carried out within the R\u0113zekne Special Economic Zone. Verems, established in 1996, has been part of the Latvijas Finieris group since 1999.<\/p>\n
Latvijas Finieris is one of the largest birch plywood producers in Europe, with total production volumes of around 300,000 m\u00b3 per year. The group operates production units in Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Lithuania and processes more than 900,000 m\u00b3 of birch logs annually.
