Norwegian softwood exports to the European Union remained firm at the start of 2026, building on the strong momentum seen in 2025, although growth is becoming more uneven across key markets.<\/p>\n

EU imports of Norwegian softwood logs reached 834,456 cubic metres in January\u2013February 2026, up 12% compared to the same period in 2025. In value terms, growth was more moderate, rising 4% to \u20ac76.7 million, indicating some easing in average prices after last year\u2019s sharp increase.<\/p>\n

Sweden continued to dominate as the main destination. Volumes rose 12% to 677,696 cubic metres, while spending increased 7% to just over \u20ac60 million. However, the pace of growth has slowed compared to 2025, suggesting a more stable procurement pattern after last year\u2019s surge.<\/p>\n

Germany showed the strongest expansion. Imports jumped 48% to 120,042 cubic metres, with value rising 22% to \u20ac12.2 million. The gap between volume and value growth points to lower average prices compared to 2025 peaks, but demand remains clearly supported.<\/p>\n

By contrast, smaller Nordic and Baltic markets weakened. Latvia reduced purchases by 23%, while Denmark\u2019s imports dropped by more than half. Finland\u2019s volumes effectively disappeared in early 2026, following strong growth the previous year.<\/p>\n

Lumber trade shows mixed signals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Processed softwood lumber exports showed more modest growth. EU imports increased 4%<\/strong> to 145,091 cubic metres<\/strong>, while value rose 7%<\/strong> to nearly \u20ac38 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sweden remained the largest buyer but volumes declined 8%<\/strong>, with value down 5%<\/strong>, pointing to softer demand compared to logs. In contrast, Germany recorded a sharp increase, with volumes rising 155%<\/strong> and value up 164%<\/strong>, indicating a shift in sourcing patterns.<\/p>\n

France emerged as a new destination, while Belgium and Denmark showed weaker demand.<\/p>\n
