The crisis in the Middle East has increased the logistics costs of the forest industry. The Finnish Sawmilling Industry Association is demanding that the government make a decision on the introduction of commercial diesel during this week's budget session.<\/p>\n
According to the trade union, this is a necessary measure to ensure the competitiveness of the wood processing industry. Professional diesel refers to the possibility allowed by the EU Energy Tax Directive to apply a lower fuel tax rate to diesel fuel used in certain types of trucks and buses.<\/p>\n
\"The crisis in the Middle East significantly weakens the prospects for the sawmill industry. It increases uncertainty in the market, is reflected in demand and increases logistics costs,\" explains Tino Aalto, CEO of the Finnish Sawmill Industry Association, in a press release.<\/p>\n
According to the Finnish Sawmilling Industry Association, the level of refund for commercial diesel should be based on the minimum level allowed by the Energy Tax Directive, estimated at approximately 17 cents per liter.<\/p>\n
