The weaker trend was more pronounced in smaller-diameter assortments, with pine small logs dropping 4.8% to €88.47/m³ and spruce small logs down 1.5% to €93.45/m³.

The decline reflects sufficient raw material availability, with sawmills entering spring with well-stocked inventories following a cold winter period.

Despite the monthly correction, standard softwood log prices remained above year-earlier levels. Pine logs were up 3.5% compared with March 2025, while spruce logs increased 9.2% over the same period. In contrast, smaller assortments continued to weaken on an annual basis, particularly battens, where prices have fallen by around 26% year-on-year.

Hardwood log prices also moved lower in March. Birch veneer logs declined 2.4% to €149.86/m³, while birch logs fell 3.1% to €100.00/m³. Aspen logs dropped 4.7% to €67.12/m³, with alder assortments also recording monthly declines.

On a year-on-year basis, hardwood logs showed more pronounced weakness. Birch veneer logs were down 13.7%, birch logs fell 15.2%, and birch small logs dropped 23%. Aspen and alder assortments also recorded double-digit declines compared with March 2025.

In contrast, pulpwood prices increased across all assortments. Pine pulpwood rose 0.2% to €51.19/m³, spruce pulpwood also gained 0.2% to €50.94/m³, while birch pulpwood increased 0.8% to €52.19/m³. Aspen pulpwood posted the strongest growth, rising 1.2% to €42.21/m³ and reaching its highest level in the past 10 months.

Over a three-month period, aspen pulpwood prices increased by 13.6%, supported in part by stronger domestic demand. However, compared with March 2025, pulpwood prices remained lower across all categories, with pine and spruce down more than 17% year-on-year and birch down 11.4%.

Fuelwood prices edged lower in March. The price of 3-metre mixed fuelwood declined 0.7% to €40.11/m³, remaining slightly above the €40 threshold. Compared with three months earlier, prices increased by 3.9%, while the annual change was marginal at +1.1%.

<table
