The company said wood fibre from SCA will be phased out of its supply chain, becoming the third major international group in recent months to distance itself from the Swedish forestry company after Nestl\u00e9 and Zalando.<\/p>\n
The decision follows scrutiny of forestry practices in northern Sweden, where environmental organisations have raised concerns over logging in forests with high conservation value and alleged impacts on Indigenous S\u00e1mi rights.<\/p>\n
Campaign groups including Greenpeace and Skydda Skogen say the recent corporate withdrawals reflect increasing pressure on the Swedish forestry model.<\/p>\n
SCA has said its operations comply with Swedish law and with certification standards such as FSC and PEFC.<\/p>\n
The dispute has unfolded over several months, moving beyond regulatory discussions into the commercial sphere.<\/p>\n
Zalando earlier said it would phase out packaging materials connected to SCA-linked fibre following an internal review, while Nestl\u00e9 indicated it would reduce sourcing from suppliers involved in forestry controversies in northern Sweden.<\/p>\n
The issue has also drawn wider public attention after protests in the region, including actions involving climate activist Greta Thunberg, where logging operations were temporarily blocked.<\/p>\n
