Three months later, there are still few concrete developments.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"279\" data-end=\"454\">According to the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">German Timber Trade Federation (GD Holz)<\/span><\/span>, the regulation remains largely unchanged in its current form, while important implementation details are still unclear.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"456\" data-end=\"720\">The revised timetable foresees application from 30 December 2026 for large and medium-sized companies, with small and micro enterprises required to comply from 30 June 2027. The delay reflects ongoing concerns about the readiness of both authorities and companies.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"722\" data-end=\"1045\">A central issue remains the EU\u2019s digital due diligence platform, which is not yet fully operational. At the same time, national control systems are still being developed, and companies continue to face difficulties in meeting traceability requirements\u2014particularly in complex supply chains such as timber and wood products.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1047\" data-end=\"1521\">The postponement was accompanied by a number of simplifications. Due diligence obligations have been streamlined, with a stronger focus on operators placing products on the EU market. Requirements for downstream actors have been reduced, many traders will no longer need to submit separate declarations, and simplified rules have been introduced for small and medium-sized enterprises. In addition, some product categories have been removed from the scope of the regulation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1523\" data-end=\"1593\">Despite these adjustments, GD Holz considers the changes insufficient.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1595\" data-end=\"1929\">\u201cThe EUDR is coming \u2013 but it must be practical. We need less bureaucracy, more clarity, and real improvements for low-risk supply chains,\u201d said <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Thomas Goebel<\/span><\/span>, Managing Director of GD Holz. \u201cMore time through less bureaucracy \u2013 that must be the motto. We hope that the Commission takes our proposals seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1931\" data-end=\"2122\">Through its umbrella organisation, the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">European Timber Trade Federation (ETTF)<\/span><\/span>, GD Holz has submitted proposals in Brussels aimed at improving the regulation and reducing administrative burden.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2124\" data-end=\"2538\">A key demand concerns the recognition of certified timber. Systems such as the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Forest Stewardship Council<\/span><\/span> and the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification<\/span><\/span> have long ensured sustainable and legal forest management and have already adapted to EUDR requirements. GD Holz calls for these certification systems to be formally recognised as risk mitigation tools, with uniform treatment across all Member States.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2540\" data-end=\"2937\">Geolocation requirements are another point of criticism. The obligation to collect precise coordinates for all harvesting areas is seen as a significant burden, especially for suppliers in regions with a very low risk of deforestation. GD Holz is therefore calling for exemptions for low-risk countries, a landscape-based approach, and the removal of geolocation requirements for certified timber.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2939\" data-end=\"3281\">In addition, the association points to a lack of clarity regarding legality requirements. Importers often face uncertainty about which documents are required, while differing interpretations between Member States create further complications. GD Holz is calling for clear EU-wide guidelines and consistent application by national authorities.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3283\" data-end=\"3566\">This is closely linked to another concern: enforcement. Different approaches to controls and documentation risk distorting competition within the EU. GD Holz is therefore calling for harmonised enforcement, binding criteria for checks, and transparent communication from authorities.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3568\" data-end=\"3854\">Further adjustments cannot be ruled out. The European Commission is expected to present a review of the regulation by 30 April 2026, focusing on administrative burden and implementation issues. While a fundamental overhaul has been ruled out, additional simplifications remain possible.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3856\" data-end=\"4008\">For timber importers and traders, the situation therefore remains unchanged: preparation continues, but key aspects of implementation are still unclear.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4010\" data-end=\"4129\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">\u201cEven though the postponement has brought some calm to the issue, we must and will continue to pursue it,\u201d said Goebel.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":98339,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"Default","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5204],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-98338","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-daily-news"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.9 -
