Forests across the European Union are growing at a faster rate than they are being harvested, according to the latest Eurostat data for 2023.<\/p>\n

In total, 23 EU member states recorded forest growth exceeding removals, confirming that harvesting levels remain below natural growth rates in most of the region.<\/p>\n

Romania recorded the largest surplus, with forest growth exceeding harvesting by 39.9 million m\u00b3, followed by Sweden (26.4 million m\u00b3) and Poland (26.3 million m\u00b3).<\/p>\n

At the other end of the scale, Estonia was the only country where removals exceeded growth, with harvesting surpassing increment by 2.5 million m\u00b3, resulting in a decline in available timber. Data was not available for Greece, Spain or Italy.<\/p>\n
