Reduced demand, price pressure and significant impairment charges have led to Travis Perkins reporting one of its weakest financial performances in recent years.<\/p>\n
The UK builders\u2019 merchanting group posted a pre-tax loss of \u00a3134.7m (\u20ac157m) for the year to 31 December 2025, compared with a loss of \u00a338.4m (\u20ac45m) in 2024. Revenue declined slightly to \u00a34.56bn (\u20ac5.33bn), from \u00a34.60bn (\u20ac5.38bn) a year earlier.<\/p>\n
The result was heavily impacted by impairment and restructuring charges. These included \u00a399m (\u20ac116m) related to Toolstation Europe and \u00a3111m (\u20ac130m) linked to merchanting operations. The group also reported \u00a340m (\u20ac47m) in property and employee cost inflation, as well as a loss on the disposal of the Staircraft business.<\/p>\n
Trading conditions remained weak across most construction-related markets. In the core merchanting segment, revenue declined to \u00a33.72bn (\u20ac4.35bn) from \u00a33.78bn (\u20ac4.42bn), while adjusted operating profit fell 18% to \u00a3122m (\u20ac143m).<\/p>\n
Like-for-like sales were broadly flat. A 0.5% increase in volumes was offset by 0.6% price deflation, reflecting ongoing competitive pressure and limited ability to pass through cost increases in an over-supplied market.<\/p>\n
Performance improved in the second half of the year, supported by targeted promotions, sales incentives and a return of resources to customer-facing roles. The group also reported the opening of around 45,000 net new customer accounts over the year.<\/p>\n
Toolstation UK continued to perform more strongly than the core merchanting business. Revenue increased by 2.7%, while adjusted operating profit rose 29% to \u00a344m (\u20ac51m). The business ended the year with 590 branches and plans to open up to 20 additional stores in 2026.<\/p>\n
By contrast, the Toolstation Benelux business remained loss-making and is under review, with all strategic options being considered.<\/p>\n
The group maintained a cautious approach to capital expenditure, with limited changes to its branch network. Three new merchant branches were opened during the year, while the Staircraft business was sold for \u00a321m (\u20ac25m) as part of efforts to simplify operations.<\/p>\n
